Young children will explore movement through creative dance, basic ballet, and tap. They will exercise the body and the imagination as they create movements to appropriate themes. They will master basic motor skills, and begin to develop balance, flexibility, and coordination, and rhythm. Children will learn self confidence and gain social awareness as they learn to adhere to classroom procedures, work in groups and partners, as well as individuals.
Students will be introduced to a more classical approach to ballet, while maintaining a joyful and creative experience any toddler will approve of. Students will perform basic ballet positions while developing posture, flexibility and body control, and rhythm. Each class will consist of a short introduction to barrework, strength and flexibility training, creative movement, and tap. The students will be introduced to classical ballet stories and music.
Students will build upon the basic positions and movements learned in Intro to Ballet Tech 1 with a stronger emphasis on posture, body alignment, isometric-muscular developement, rhythm, and musical dynamics. Along with the continued study of classical ballet stories and music, students will begin learning traditional ballet miming and character work.
Dancers will enjoy the dynamics of a full technique class including barrework, flexibility training, and centre work. With further emphasis on posture and isometric-muscular development, this class will focus on the dancers’ aplomb, while expanding their technical vocabulary in both ballet and character work.
While building on the technical core developed in Foundations 1, this class will focus on the dancers’ quality of movement as the dancer begins to mature their port de bras and alonge. The class will have a strong focus on adagio work both at the barre, and in the centre. The dancer will also develop confidence as they are challenged with more complex across the floor combinations.
Building on the fundamentals taught in prior classes, the dancer’s agility and ease of movement will increase as he/she prepares for Advanced, Pointe, and Company levels. This level maintains a strong emphasis on the muscular developement of the foot, knee, and ankle to ensure the dancer's safety in the advanced movements of grand allegro (big jumps) pirouettes, and in preparation for pointe work.
